That Little Red Cup

I had me some Starbucks today.

It's that time of year. Yes, the Peppermint Mocha Frappucino is back. And it is every bit as delicious as it sounds.

No, it didn't come in a little red cup. (Those are for the hot beverages.) But it tasted a lot like Christmas.

Now, I know a lot of people are upset about the red cups this year. Unlike in years past, the cups don't have Christmas decorations on them. The idea, so I'm told, is not to offend those who don't celebrate Christmas.

Now I do celebrate Christmas. But the lack of decor on the cups, frankly, doesn't bother me that much.

Maybe because there are far bigger issues in the world.

For instance, on Friday, I got the opportunity to make some shoe soles for Sole Hope. It is a charity that makes shoes for children in Uganda. There, people suffer from jiggers, which are essentially flesh-eating bugs. They get into people's feet and make it hard and painful to walk. Sole Hope runs a clinic that both treats the children's feet, but provides them with handmade shoes. People (such as us) cut the shoes from plastic and old jeans. They then send them over, where they employ shoemakers and pay them a fair wage to make the shoes. The shoes are then sent to the clinic to be distributed to children. For many kids, it is their first pair of shoes.

Anyway, I had this thought. What if every Christian spent the cost of one latte/Frappucino/beverage of choice on a cause that would help others? In other words, rather than simply writing Merry Christmas on a cup, why not use that money on something that would show Christ to others?

Something to think about. :-)
